You need at least a Master's degree, and even a Ph.D. in most cases. Therefore, you still have many more years of education in front of you if you are just graduating High School and about to become a freshman in college. This is much different than in High School.
The Best States for Physical Therapy
Are you ready to begin your Physical Therapy education and are willing to relocate to a different state to get into a good school? Well, I'll first begin that there is a good chance that you do not have to do this. Nearly every state in the continental United States has at least 1 Physical Therapy School if you want to stay local. How competitive your state is really dependant on how many schools are in your state and how many students want to enroll. Your state could have 3 or 4 schools for Physical Therapists, but if there are several hundred students that are looking to apply then you can still have a problem. The best solution is to begin looking at Physical Therapy schools while you are a Freshman in an undergrad program.
The states of California and New York offer the most options for Physical Therapist students. Each of these states has well over a dozen highly qualified Physical Therapy schools that you can get into. Each school is accredited and will provide you with the type of education that qualifies you to become a practicing Physical Therapist in your home state. The graduation rates and successful passage of certification are extremely high. Because the large number of schools in these states, the competition isn’t as tough as in Arizona where there are only 3 accredited schools.
The next tier of states is Florida and Texas. Both of these states have nearly 10 schools for Physical Therapists that are all accredited. The schools in the states offer a high quality education with an excellent experience. Many of the best professors and practitioners teach at these schools and you will learn a lot from their passionate experience.
If you choose any of these particular states then you will get a high quality education. Each state has their own unique benefits and some cultural benefits too that might go into your consideration. California and Florida both offer the most beautiful beaches with schools nearby. In addition, the cities of San Francisco in California and St. Augustine in Florida are both cultural landmarks in the country. Both of these cities possess highly qualified Physical Therapy schools and offer many very good cultural attractions to keep you busy.
In closing, there is only one thing that you should be concerned about. The number of schools doesn’t always equate to the ease of getting into one in that state. The state of Texas is case in point. There are close to ten which is a large number, but the number of searches every month is over double the number of states such as California, New York and Florida. This is especially concerning because each of these other states have more Physical Therapy Schools. In the end, the best solution is to prepare as much as possible in order to get into any PT school. Try as best as possible to get a high GPA, take relevant classes and get a good GRE score.
